The world blurs in the Third Rain — not of water but unseeing. Nireth of the Valley preserves the fire, the seeds, and the last Dream. And in the fourth age, Varan-Kai raises his tower toward the Chime.

Three tales from the age of first mortals: Lira who drew down the stars; Thalen who named Death and was taken; and Hareth, keeper of the Garden, who returned the Fracture-Blade to the Tree.

Arenen — child to no nation — listens to the Laws in the days of iuvenis. He walks, and the Voice speaks: "Bind." He strikes covenant, receives the sigils of Ascent, Cycles and Binding, and founds the first Vow-Keepers.

A letter from an exile to his brother Kaelen — speaking of the Falcon Banner hidden in catacombs, a sealed vault of stolen Names, and a final plea to come when the moons part. Kaelen later learned his brother was killed; it took an army.

Shadowbrief on the emergent commander "Marek Veldt" — absent from all records, commanding in structured silence, his banner unaffected by wind. The Hollow Shrine is non-traversable. Recommendation: send a Silent Envoy; let Rheinhart bleed.

1700 Ithari regulars hold against 5000 Rhinian conscripts at the northern shore of Sword's Death. Three-hour engagement; Net Break manoeuvre; enemy routed. 143 Ithari dead. A new Rhinian general reported arriving from the west with a "beast bound standard".

A routine sweep turns strange: blackened stones arranged in too-perfect circles, a torn page in Rhinian script with phrases that don't translate, and a final line — "For the ground listens." Scout Meren saw a second shadow. They left immediately.

Subject: Marek Veldt, newly appointed Rhinian commander. No military records, no heraldry, no sleep, no visible orders — troops respond in preternatural unity. Red Crest mages report "dull pressure" behind the eyes. Assessment: not a traditional commander. Highest vigilance advised.

Ithar's Deputy Minister writes pointedly to Rheinhart over naval manoeuvres in the Sword's Death — framed as routine, read as rehearsal. A single misstep would make it a matter for generals, not ministries. "I urge your council to respond with clarity, not cannons."

Written in frantic handwriting — Dovichiari describes a deal struck with a figure in dark robes who could not be seen directly. The power was incredible. Now he lies in bed, certain the figure can alter these very words. A postscript in a different hand warns him to stop writing.
